Location: Kloof street, Cape Town     Job Type: 3 Full Days (Tue – Thu)     Salary: Very Competitive

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum 10 years relevant working experience (Grade 2)
  • Appropriate qualification that allows registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as Oral Hygienist
  • Registration with the HPCSA as Oral Hygienist

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Clean calcareous deposits, accretions, and stains from teeth and beneath margins of gums, using dental instruments.
  • Feel and visually examine gums for sores and signs of disease.
  • Chart conditions of decay and disease for diagnosis and treatment by dentist.
  • Feel lymph nodes under patient’s chin to detect swelling or tenderness that could indicate presence of oral cancer.
  • Apply fluorides and other cavity preventing agents to arrest dental decay.
  • Examine gums, using probes, to locate periodontal recessed gums and signs of gum disease.
  • Take periapical and Panorex x-rays when required.
  • Provide clinical services and health education to improve and maintain oral health of school children.
  • Remove excess cement from coronal surfaces of teeth.
  • Take impressions for study model casts.
  • Administer local anesthetic agents.
  • Dental implant maintenance checks.
  • Remove sutures and dressings.
  • Place and remove rubber dams, matrices, and temporary restorations.
  • Periodontal screening and charting.
  • Brite Smile Bleaching.
  • Record taking for every procedure performed.
  • Implement and manage maintenance protocols of practice
  • Manage / Control Procedure specific stock
